Dr. Sylvia Johnson Jones
Dr. Sylvia Johnson Jones is an educator, leader, mentor, and coach. She is an Emerita Executive Director and adjunct professor at the College of Lake County. Dr. Johnson Jones has worked in workforce, education, and training for over 30 years.
Sylvia has presented on various workforce and education topics at various conferences, locally, regionally, and nationally. Dr. Johnson Jones is published in a book, which includes narratives on modeling, mentoring, and other mothering. Sylvia is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., LINKs, Inc., and CEO and Founder of SMJ Shining Stars.
Dr. Johnson Jones believes in community. She serves on the following boards - Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center, Lake County Chamber of Commerce, North Chicago Community High School D187, Waukegan Township - Coalition to Reduce Recidivism, and Lake Forest Bank & Trust.
Dr. Johnson Jones has been the recipient of various awards, including the Most Influential African American Educational Award, the 2022 Martin Luther King Jr., Humanitarian Award, and Unity Award at the College of Lake County.
Prior to the education sector, Sylvia was employed in various positions including management at Lake County Health Department. Sylvia received her Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. She earned her Master of Arts degree in Human Resource Development from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, IL and Doctor of Education from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, WI.
Dr. Johnson Jones believes in simply sharing her stories and giving back to the community.
